Our Six Year Old

Ivy turned six Saturday before last.  She says that she is still getting used to it.  She still feels like she's five.  At six Ivy's best friend is still her brother, Will.  She is a pretty good eater and will at least try most things.  If I get a salad with my lunch she will invariably eat my carrot slivers.  She also likes lettuce and broccoli. Her favorite food is strawberries.  She also likes chocolate chip cookies, but doesn't have as much of a sweet tooth as her older siblings.

Ivy has been learning to knit on a loom this summer.  She loves to do crafts, color, and paint. She going to Will's basketball games, but rarely watched him play.  She would exercise behind the bleachers during the games. Another favorite activity are Will's cub scout pack meetings.  There are always lots of fun children to play with and great activities.  She tried out karate in the spring, but didn't want to continue after one session.

Ivy is learning to read.  She is doing pretty well. This summer she is working on first grade worksheets.  She has needed a little help with reading the assignments, but seems to catch on to each concept pretty quickly.

Ivy got to go horse back riding for the first time the week after she turned six.  She loved it and wants to do it a lot more! It was fun to watch her with the horse. She was good at being firm, but looked like she was doing the splitz with her little legs not quite reaching the whole width of the horse! (We should have taken pictures.)

This summer Ivy hasn't wanted to wear her water wings in the pool. She reminds me of Janae when she was little and wanted to swim alone, except she doesn't have the same skills Janae had.  She does doggie paddle really well, so I try not to worry too much.

We opened presents in the afternoon at lunch time.

Later we had cake when Faith got back from girls camp.  (Ivy really wanted to carve a watermelon for her birthday)
