Hiking at Cathedral Gorge

The Saturday before Memorial Day we went hiking at Cathedral Gorge. It was a three hour drive up there through some very rural parts of Nevada. We drove through Alamo, where Mom and Dad's friends, the Kitchens have a ranch; through Caliente (which was a charming little town known for its hot springs, but they are all now privately held, so don't try to go hot potting there); up to Panaca - don't blink. It was a really magical place enhanced even more by the fact that it rained while we were there. We hiked around for a few hours and then the rain really started coming down and it looked like it might last awhile, so we headed back to Caliente where we ate delicious pizza at Pioneer Pizza. Fun day, but too much driving!

We hiked up a hill that gave us a good vantage point looking down on the gorge.
There were all these neat little slot canyons that we explored.
I didn't know until this adventure that Bill is a little bit claustrophobic!
Faith loved to find all the little nooks that were just perfect for her size.
Since Will ruins every picture he is in, we made him the camera man.  He did a pretty good job!
All the narrow passageways ended like this one.
I snapped one picture of Will before he realized that he wasn't doing something crazy.
We have definitely decided that we need to explore more of Nevada. There are treasures to be found!
