I emailed the school principal to let him know what happened. He followed up with to say that they got the fire department over there. My student is okay. It was a dirty filter that was burning when the heater was on. I was relieved to hear he is okay.
Thursday was the first day that I wished deeply to just be at school with my students.

Life lessons during school: watch out for those dirty filters. What an unsettling way to teach. At least when you are in a classroom, you can tell if your students are in immediate danger. You're a great teacher.
Wow. I am so glad it turned out well for your student. Full time virtual learning teachers should get some kind of extra bonus. It is not for the faint of heart. Thank you for being so great!
Wow. This is heart stopping! I am so glad it has a happy ending and that you were there talking to this kid. Just wow. I would wish for the safety of being together at school too after that. Especially for kids who get left home really alone.
